On Love and Light in a World of Loss

This volume was compiled largely under my nose as it were over the course of 20 some years. I was reflecting on relationships, loss, and finding hope and joy in my own heart. I didn’t know there was a through line until the unexpected and inexplicable passing of my son’s mother after a textbook-successful surgery. Everything snapped into focus at that point and I knew I needed to share.

Upcoming – Ekphrasis
Ekphrasis comes from the Greek meaning “description”. A more formal definition is “the use of detailed description of a work of visual art as a literary device”. I take a more felt-sensory approach, allowing my visceral response to a piece of art guide my writing.

How does a desert being thrive in the Northern reaches?
With love, with love, knowledge, care, planning, tending –
And a family of sun-yellow blooms arrives
Announcing life, fertility, acceptance
Ignore my prickly bits for I am
As lush as any rose or tulip
Come and fellowship with me
And I will show you a new
View of life and vibrancy
